Seahawks visit with Baylor CB Derrek Thomas

The Seattle Seahawks are dedicating a lot of time looking for improvements in their secondary heading into the 2019 season, both via free agency and the draft.

It’s easy to see why after they lost future Hall of Famer Earl Thomas and nickelback Justin Coleman in free agency. That has left them with a very young, inexperienced group of corners and safeties outside of Bradley McDougald.

One of their visits will be with Baylor cornerback Derrek Thomas, who said after his Pro Day that he has visits lined up with the Cowboys and the Seahawks.

Thomas has the requisite length and height to be a Pete Carroll cornerback, but his lack of experience, after switching to corner in college, and his struggles in the run-game could limit him at the next level.

Still, Carroll and company have long sought after lengthy, athletic players in the later rounds, and they have no problem bringing in players with little experience at corner, as evidenced by Tre Flowers last season.

Perhaps Thomas, who would be a late-round pick or even an undrafted free agent, could be their next cornerback project.
