Seahawks: Travis Homer putting in extra time as a pass-catcher

When the Seattle Seahawks selected running back Travis Homer in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft, they knew they were getting a physical running back who will contribute right away on the special teams.

However, Homer’s strength as a pass blocker makes him an option at another spot: third-down back.

“I’m very comfortable with that,” Homer said after the final day of minicamp on Sunday. “If that’s my role I’m just taking it and I’m going to do my best.”

Coach Pete Carroll was quick to praise Homer’s performance over the weekend, saying he has a great sense for the game and he had no problem picking up the offense.

“We did a lot of different stuff with him, running the football, route-wise, protection stuff he seemed very comfortable with too,” Carroll continued. “He seemed very well-versed.”

While Homer excels in pass-protection, he does not have much experience catching the football, which he’ll need to demonstrate proficiency at if he wants to settle in as Seattle’s primary third down back.

Carroll did say the team spent extra time working with Homer on his pass catching skills after practice, a good sign the team wants to see him in that role next season.

Homer will have a role on the special teams regardless, but his skill set could allow him to do much more for Seattle in 2019.
