Seahawks tight end Jacob Hollister finally gets his chance

The Seattle Seahawks made a series of roster moves on Friday afternoon, recalling tight end Jacob Hollister and guard Jordan Roos from the practice squad while placing guard Ethan Pocic on the IR and waiving safety Adrian Colbert to make room.

Assuming Hollister plays on Sunday, he will be making his regular season debut with the Seahawks.

Hollister was acquired from the Patriots in the spring for a 2020 seventh round pick. He performed well during training camp, which lead to him getting an extended run during the preseason.

Even after scoring a preseason touchdown, the Seahawks were forced to cut Hollister in favor of Will Dissly, Nick Vannett and George Fant. Hollister was re-signed to the practice squad and has remained there ever since, waiting for an opportunity to present itself on the active roster.

That came this week when it was announced that left tackle Duane Brown is doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Browns, meaning Fant will likely have to play in his place and leaving the Seahawks with just Dissly and Luke Willson – signed a few weeks ago to replace Vannett – as the only two tight ends on the roster.

They’ll now be joined by Hollister, although he isn’t going to replace Fant’s role as an extra run-blocker up front. That will likely go to Willson, while Hollister could come on as a route-runner in passing sets that require two tight ends.

Even if Brown is out for a while, Hollister’s spot on the active roster may be short lived with the return of Ed Dickson from the injured reserve, which could happen after Week 8 if he is healthy.

Still, this is a great chance for the young tight end to prove himself at the NFL level, and potentially earn a spot in future years with both Willson and Dickson unlikely to be in the fold in 2020.
