Seahawks stick at No. 10 in Touchdown Wire’s NFL power rankings

The Seattle Seahawks started the regular season at No. 10 in Touchdown Wire’s NFL power rankings after pulling off a major trade to acquire defensive end Jadeveon Clowney from the Houston Texans.

Now, after narrowly beating the Bengals Week 1 to advance to 1-0 on the year, the Seahawks find themselves once again in the 10th spot.

“Pete Carroll has two major issues to address, though his Seahawks picked up a 21-20 home win over the Bengals to open the 2019 season,” Doug Farrar writes. “The first is a stale offensive game plan that saw receiver Tyler Lockett targeted just twice – he caught a 44-yard touchdown pass on one of those targets – and a post-Legion of Boom secondary that features nothing in the way of obvious lockdown prospects, unlike when Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor were finding their feet in the early 2010s.”

“It was nice that running back Chris Carson was able to run 15 times for 46 yards and a touchdown, but predictability will get you nowhere when facing better teams in more important situations,” Farrar continues. “One would think the Seahawks should’ve learned this from their playoff loss to the Cowboys that ended their 2018 season.”

The Seahawks have an off day Tuesday before resuming practice to prep to face the Steelers Week 2 on the road.
