Seahawks use non-exclusive franchise tag on DE Frank Clark

The Seattle Seahawks have designated defensive end Frank Clark with the non-exclusive franchise tag one day before the NFL’s deadline of March 5. The team confirmed the move via Twitter on Monday afternoon.

Clark just wrapped up the final year of his rookie contract and was widely regarded as one of the league’s top potential unrestricted free agents.

Under the non-exclusive franchise tag, Clark is set to receive $17.1 million on his one-year tender.

Despite the tag, Seattle and Clark’s camp can still continue discussions on a new long-term deal until July 15. Once that deadline has passed, all talks must cease and the two sides cannot resume negotiations until after the Seahawks finish the 2019 regular season.

Clark, 25, posted his best season yet in 2018, finishing the year with 41 combined tackles, 13 sacks, two passes defensed and one interception.
