Seattle Seahawks announced two transactions on Monday afternoon ahead of the official start of training camp. Seattle has signed wide receiver Darece Roberson to provide additional depth at the position.
Roberson had originally signed with the Cardinals this spring as an undrafted free agent out of Wayne State but was waived in May.
Roberson, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound speedster—he ran a 10.79-second 100-yard dash in high school—was a big-play threat as a receiver and return man in college, averaging more than 20 yards per catch twice (21.44 in 2018 and 20.76 in 2019) while also becoming the second player in school history to score touchdowns on kick and punt returns. Roberson finished his college career with 92 catches for 1,767 yards and 24 touchdowns in 43 games, 33 of them starts. As a senior, Roberson had 34 catches for 706 yards and nine scores, and added 118 rushing yards on just seven carries. He also averaged 32.3 yards per kick return as a senior, gaining 324 yards on 10 returns, including a 96-yard touchdown in the final game of his college career.
The Seahawks waived cornerback Saivion Smith to make room for Roberson on the roster.
