Seahawks sign quarterback Geno Smith

The Seattle Seahawks have added another player to the backup quarterback competition this offseason, signing Geno Smith after a visit on Wednesday.

Smith will duke it out with Paxton Lynch, whom Seattle signed in January.

The Seahawks have attempted to find a solid backup for starter Russell Wilson over the last few seasons, even drafting Alex McGough last year – the first quarterback selected since Wilson in 2012.

Seattle had a number of quarterbacks at rookie minicamp earlier in the month, but coach Pete Carroll wasn’t satisfied with the production on the field.

The Seahawks have now turned to another veteran to up the ante in training camp.

Smith was selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft and spent four seasons with the team before signing with the Giants in 2017. He played in five games for the Chargers last year.
