Seahawks sign Adrian Colbert, Elijah Nkansah to practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks officially signed free safety Adrian Colbert and right tackle Elijah Nkansah to the practice squad.

Nkansah had been previously reported by ESPN’s Brady Henderson, while Colbert was reported to be working out with the Seahawks on Tuesday, along with five other free agents.

In order to make room, the team waived quarterback Cardale Jones and wide receiver Jazz Ferguson.

Colbert started six games at free safety for the 49ers last season, recording 21 combined tackles and one pass defended. He’ll provide additional depth in the secondary with both Tedric Thompson and Neiko Thorpe dealing with hamstring injuries that could prevent them from suiting up again in Week 3.

Nkansah was with Seattle for part of last season on the practice squad, and was on the roster for the entire offseason until getting cut in early September.

He did not perform particularly well in the preseason, but Seattle is likely looking for additional depth on the offensive line following a hamstring injury to D.J. Fluker.

Jones was Seattle’s only quarterback on the roster besides Russell Wilson and Geno Smith, so it looks like the team will go into Week 3 without insurance. Expect them to find another quarterback to add to the practice squad soon, possibly even bringing Jones back if he is not signed elsewhere.

Ferguson was a surprise standout during the preseason, with many believing he deserved a spot on the active roster.

Instead, the tall x-receiver will look for another opportunity around the NFL as the team opted to keep fellow undrafted free agent receiver Terry Wright instead.
