Seahawks sign 2nd-round selection DK Metcalf to rookie contract

The Seattle Seahawks now have 10 players out of their 11-man, 2019 NFL draft class under contract after signing wide receiver DK Metcalf. The team officially announced the news Wednesday afternoon.

Seattle selected Metcalf with the final pick of the second round at No. 64 overall after trading with the Patriots. The wide receiver out of Ole Miss was highly regarded as one of the best at his position in this year’s class.

“He had a great weekend,” coach Pete Carroll said of Metcalf’s performance during the team’s rookie minicamp. “He really did. He had the opportunity to catch balls of all different kinds all over the field. Down the field of course, he was really comfortable with all the long ball stuff. Everything we did with him, he was very comfortable with.”

Metcalf is one of three wide receivers drafted this year, and will compete with rookie picks Gary Jennings Jr. and John Ursua for spots on the 53-man roster.

Linebacker Cody Barton remains the Seahawks’ only draft pick yet to sign.
