Seahawks sign 1st-round draft pick L.J. Collier to rookie contract

The Seattle Seahawks have signed one more player from their 2019 NFL draft class, defensive end L.J. Collier, per the NFL’s official transactions report.

Collier was selected by Seattle in the first round with the No. 29 overall pick, which was received this year from the Chiefs as part of the compensation package in the Frank Clark trade.

“L.J. fits us,” general manager John Schneider had said after the draft. “He’s a heavy-handed, chip-on-his-shoulder guy. He lost his mother when he was a freshman in college and he didn’t play well in the last game that she saw, and he’s always used that to his advantage. He played in a complicated system down there at TCU.”

With the Collier deal done, the Seahawks now have nine of their 11 draft picks under contract: safety Marquise Blair, wide receiver Gary Jennings Jr., offensive lineman Phil Haynes, defensive back Ugo Amadi, linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven, running back Travis homer, defensive tackle Demarcus Christmas and wide receiver John Ursua.

Only second-round pick, wide receiver D.K. Metcalf and third-round selection, linebacker Cody Barton, remain unsigned. However, both are allowed to participate in the team’s offseason workouts.
