Seahawks should trade back in 1st round of 2019 NFL draft

The Seattle Seahawks are well known for their draft-day trades and this April could be no different.

The Seahawks are lean on selections this year, having lost their second, sixth and seventh-round picks in trades for left tackle Duane Brown, backup quarterback Brett Hundley and safety Shalom Lunai, respectively.

Having received no additional compensatory picks in 2019, Seattle is a prime candidate to trade back this season.

Matthew Stevens of Touchdown Wire agrees.

“The Seahawks have a grand total of four selections in the 2019 NFL draft, by far the fewest of any team this year. Even worse is Seattle has a bunch of holes on the roster as the last of the Legion of Doom defense left in free agency,” Stevens writes. “With big needs at wide receiver, cornerback and offensive line, the Seahawks could trade back and pick up more good players at positions of need.”‘

The Seahawks will undoubtedly pull a move or two in this year’s draft and dealing their first rounder could net them the missing picks they need.

And while Seattle might be in the hunt to acquire more draft stock in April, the Seahawks are sitting pretty as far as comp picks next season, in line to be awarded up to four additional selections after playing their cards right to start free agency.
