Seahawks select safety in Touchdown Wire’s mock draft 4.0

The original Legion of Boom is no more now that former Seahawks safety Earl Thomas has signed with the Baltimore Ravens.

Seattle will need to find a replacement for the All-Pro free safety to keep the Seahawks’ formidable secondary, well, formidable.

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar believes the solution may come in the first round of this year’s NFL draft in the form of Alabama safety, Deionte Thompson.

Farrar has the Seahawks selecting Thompson at No. 21 overall.

“Another team in need of a highly-picked edge-rusher, though Seattle did retain Frank Clark with the franchise tag,” Farrar writes. “What the Seahawks had in Earl Thomas, though, is far less replaceable. Now that Thomas is in Baltimore’s secondary, it’s mandatory that Pete Carroll has a safety who can patrol the entire deep third of the defense, and from boundary to boundary.”

“Thompson is a true single-high defender with the range and athleticism to help lead the next iteration of the Legion of Boom,” Farrar states.

Farrar isn’t the only analyst to mock Thompson to Seattle . . . quite a few do have the Seahawks shoring up the edge, instead.

However, Thompson seems a likely fit for the new-look Legion of Boom, should Seattle feel securing the secondary is a first-round need.
