Seahawks safety Marquise Blair expected back this week

The Seattle Seahawks got some rough news late last week on the injury front, with receiver David Moore suffering a serious shoulder injury and Shaquem Griffin unable to suit up as well.

However, they did get some good news as well, including a report from coach Pete Carroll indicating that rookie safety Marquise Blair could be back as soon as this week following a bruised back injury suffered during Seattle’s preseason loss to the Vikings.

“His bruised back is like a hip pointer,” Carroll clarified on Saturday. “It’s on the backside of his hip. He just has to get through. It’s just going to take a little bit of time. He should be back this week. If he’s really that uncomfortable and can’t go, he can’t go. He’s a really tough kid and he wants to play and all that. He’ll get a chance to get back.”

Blair came out of last Sunday’s game with what was originally called back spasms. He didn’t participate last week and was held out of Saturday’s preseason contest against the Chargers, but all signs point to him getting a chance to participate on Thursday against the Raiders in the preseason finale.

The hard-hitting rookie has looked excellent when on the field for the Seahawks. He has played both strong and free safety this preseason, and is challenging for a starting role on Seattle’s young defense.
