Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny poised for breakout campaign

Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny, selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft, could very well see a bigger role this season. With Mike Davis now with the Bears, Penny and Chris Carson will likely shoulder the load.

Although Carson is looking to reclaim his starting position, Penny could very well be poised for a breakout year. In fact, NFL.com analyst Terrell Davis lists Penny as one of three running backs around the league who could do just that in 2019.

“Recovering from a knee injury, Chris Carson still came into minicamp in “better shape” than anyone,” Davis notes. “But the story out of Seattle was Penny, who has also dedicated himself to being a better pro – with that comes health – this offseason. Penny, who did not start last season, received most of the reps during OTAs and looked comfortable doing so.”

Penny joins the Vikings’ Dalvin Cook and Buccaneers’ Ronald Jones II as Davis’ top three prospects. Davis projects Penny will rush for 800 yards and eight touchdowns this season.

“With his new approach, expect Penny to make the most of his opportunities, giving him a real shot at taking over the starting job at some point in the first half of the season,” Davis continues. “As the RB1, Penny’s athleticism and natural ability to be full display this fall in Brian Schottenheimer’s run-first offense.”
