Seahawks rookie receiver DK Metcalf scheduled for minor knee surgery

Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf did not participate in the team’s second preseason game Sunday night in Minnesota. General manager John Schneider announced the news shortly before kickoff against the Minnesota Vikings.

“He’s got a sore leg,” Schneider said on the Seahawks radio broadcast. “We’re going to check that out and be cautious with him, and play it day by day and see how it goes.”

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed during his post-game press conference Metcalf was scheduled to undergo minor knee surgery on Tuesday. While he didn’t specify the nature of the procedure, Carroll seemed confident Metcalf could return by the start of the regular season.

“DK’s got an injury to his knee that we found, it happened two days back,” Carroll said. “So it’s something we’ve got to do some work on, probably Tuesday, and get him back in a hurry. We’re disappointed for him, because he was off to a fantastic start, but I don’t think this is going to derail him for long. But he does have to have some work done. We’ll know more about that when we get back into town.”

Seattle selected the stand-out receiver with the final pick of the second round of April’s NFL draft. With Doug Baldwin’s absence leaving a glaring hole in the passing game, the hype surrounding Metcalf – and the rest of the wideouts – has been real.

An update on Metcalf’s status is exected following his surgery later in the week.
