Seahawks rookie DK Metcalf living up to hype through 2 games

Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf has established himself as one of the team’s most important players after a mere two weeks of play. He has recorded seven receptions for 150 receiving yards and a touchdown thus far and looks to have a promising career going forward.

Metcalf received an abundance of hype before the 2019 NFL draft due to his stature and physical attributes. His performance at the NFL combine only served to heighten his profile with a 4.33 40-yard dash, which was viewed as highly impressive for a 6-foot-4, 229-pound wide receiver.

However, Metcalf also came with his fair share of concerns, primarily his route running, one of the most important traits of a wide receiver. In addition, Metcalf only ran his three-cone drill in 7.38 seconds. These concerns likely caused him to drop all the way to the end of the second round, where the Seahawks scooped him up with the No. 64 overall pick.

Metcalf somewhat silenced his doubters in his first game against Cincinnati, leading the Seahawks in catches (4) and receiving yards (89) en route to a 21-20 victory. He continued to produce the following week in Pittsburgh, despite committing a few glaring penalties, racking up three receptions for 61 receiving yards and his first NFL touchdown. That touchdown extended Seattle’s lead to 28-19 and could have put the game away if not for Chris Carson’s fumble to set up Pittsburgh’s subsequent score.

With defenses largely focusing on defending Tyler Lockett, Metcalf could have plentiful opportunities to take advantage of. The possibilities are endless, but one thing is clear . . . DK Metcalf is the real deal.
