Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett hosts youth camp in Tulsa

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett, heir apparent to the number one receiver position for the Seattle Seahawks, has a simple message for children everywhere:

‘You can do anything that you want.’

On June 28, Lockett worked to spread that sentiment at the University of Tulsa’s H.A. Chapman Stadium, hosting over 250 children from ages 7-18 at the Tyler Lockett Football ProCamp for a day of games, instruction, and drills. This was Lockett’s first time hosting a camp in his hometown of Tulsa, after the success of his youth football camps in the Seattle area.

Lockett was inspired by his childhood memories of attending his own father’s youth camp, during which he was able to meet and learn from Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez.

“A lot of people my age still remember that day, still talk about it,” Lockett said. He expressed his desire to give the attendees their own memorable experience, encouraging the children to “have fun, just get out there and enjoy yourself.”

All of the attendees received signed photos from Lockett, along with a plethora of Seahawks gear.

Lockett is not the first member of his family to play football at the highest level; both his father, Kevin, and his uncle, Aaron, spent time in the NFL. Both of the older Locketts have since demonstrated a commitment to give back to the Tulsa community, a desire which manifested strongly in Tyler.

“(He) just wants to have a big impact in Tulsa because he knows there were a lot of people who did the same for him when he was growing up here,” said Kevin Lockett.

Lockett is pleased with the results of his efforts, but not fully satisfied: he has bigger dreams for 2020’s camp.

“It’s days like this that kids remember, and it’s days like this that make kids want to do more, to be better,” he said.
