Seahawks re-signing veteran DT Al Woods

The Seattle Seahawks are re-signing veteran defensive tackle Al Woods according to his agency. According to Corbin Smith at Sports Illustrated, it’s a two-year deal worth a total of $9 million.

Woods was by far the team’s top run defender during the 2021 season and a major reason why they ranked second in fewest yards allowed per carry. Pro Football Focus gave Woods a strong 75.4 overall grade for the year, the second-highest mark among defensive starters behind cornerback D.J. Reed. That grade also ranked Woods 13th out of 110 interior defensive linemen around the NFL with enough snaps to qualify.

The Seahawks have also agreed to terms of a three-year deal with free safety Quandre Diggs. Together, these two moves indicate that the franchise will not be embracing a total rebuild as might have been suggested by trading their starting quarterback Russell Wilson and releasing middle linebacker Bobby Wagner.
