Seahawks re-sign DB Jamar Taylor, waive Parry Nickerson

The Seattle Seahawks finalized a move that had been reported earlier in the week, re-signing veteran defensive back Jamar Taylor.

In order to make room on the active roster, the team waived defensive back Parry Nickerson, who was acquired from the Jets last week for a 2021 conditional seventh round pick.

Taylor was Seattle’s leading candidate at the nickelback position throughout most of training camp and the preseason, but was a surprise cut instead.

It’s not a surprise to see him return after Week 1 however, because as a vested veteran his contract is no longer guaranteed going forward.

The Seahawks rarely played in their nickel package on Sunday, preferring to stay in a base 4-3 defense which allows both K.J. Wright and Mychal Kendricks to remain on the field.

Now that Taylor is back, it’s likely they’ll revert more to the nickel going forward.

Nickerson was expected to compete at the nickel spot, even drawing comparisons to Justin Coleman, but now he’ll go through waivers less than two weeks after Seattle traded for him. He was a healthy inactive in his first game with the team.

If he passes through waivers, don’t be surprised to see Seattle add him to their practice squad. They have a spot open after they lost fellow cornerback Simeon Thomas to the Redskins.
