Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson plans to play until he’s 45

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is about to enter his eighth year in the league. At age 30, he recently signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension that makes him the highest-paid player in the NFL and keeps him in Seattle through 2023.

“I feel like I’m just getting started,” Wilson told NFL.com columnist Michael Silver. “That’s the scary part. That’s the most exciting part. That’s really where I believe that I am right now: I’m just getting started. And I believe this team is just getting started. So, I think that we can do anything that we set our minds out to do.”

Wilson has already enjoyed his fair share of success since he was drafted in 2012, setting numerous league and franchise records, and leading his team to two Super Bowl appearances.

But he isn’t about to stop there.

“Seven years has gone by so fast,” Wilson continued. “You think about just turning 30 years and what I have for the rest of my career – for the next 10 to 15 years — I’m just fired up about it. You think about some of the best quarterbacks of all time, guys like Drew [Brees], guys like Tom [Brady]. I really look up to those guys. There’s so much more to do.”

Silver followed up and asked Wilson whether he plans to play until he’s 45.

“Yeah, yeah,” Wilson said. “That’s the goal. I’m just fired up for it.”
