Seahawks QB Russell Wilson now highest-paid player in NFL

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had himself a day yesterday, agreeing to terms on a new contract extension that now makes him the highest-paid player in the NFL.

“At the end of the day, my guy wants to live, work, thrive in Seattle,” said Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “Loves this town and its fans. He compromised to stay here. I respect that.”

After looking at the numbers, it doesn’t appear Wilson had to compromise much after all.

Wilson’s extension amounts to four years at $140 million with a $65 million signing bonus and $107 million in guaranteed money. Wilson now surpasses Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers as the highest-paid player with an average annual value of $35 million. His new deal also provides for a no-trade clause.

“To Mark Rodgers my agent & father figure…” Wilson tweeted Tuesday morning. “You believed in me 10 years ago when no one else would.. Thanks for being who you are as a man and friend. You are the best in the game.”

The Seahawks’ star quarterback is now under contract with Seattle for five years at $157 million.

Russell Wilson is living his best life, to say the least.
