Seahawks QB Russell Wilson at his best over Rams, making case for MVP

The Seattle Seahawks were able to overcome the Los Angeles Rams Week 5 to notch a win over a division rival and much of the credit goes to quarterback Russell Wilson.

Wilson completed 17 of 23 passes attempted for 268 and yards and threw for four touchdowns Thursday night, also logging eight carries for 32 yards on the ground. At 12 touchdowns on the year, Wilson is making a solid campaign for the season’s MVP.

“I thought Russell played one of the best games I’ve ever seen him play,” coach Pete Carroll said after the win. “I’ve just never seen him, speaking of magic, all of the plays that he came up with his legs, running, for one, but also, not just to get out of trouble, but to find the receivers and make the throws just one after another after another. The extraordinary play to Lock, and honestly I still haven’t seen it. I didn’t get a chance to see it. Everybody’s just raving it’s one of the best catches they’ve ever seen.

“But it’s also one of the best throws ever made if that’s the case. Because there was no room for error.”

Wilson found Tyler Lockett in the end zone for the Seahawks’ first score of the night in what amounted to the most improbable completion of the last two seasons, per Next Gens Stats. Lockett was able to keep both feet in the end zone for an amazing catch.

“But I just thought Russ was . . .  he stole the show tonight as he did so much,” Carroll continued. “And on top of what he’s done to start the season off in great fashion. So really fired up for him and our team. And our guys are really excited to be able to cheer for him in that way tonight.”
