Seahawks QB Geno Smith ranked 11th-best backup in the NFL

The Seattle Seahawks hope they won’t have to turn to a backup quarterback this season if Russell Wilson gets hurt, but if they do, they know they have a solid option in Geno Smith.

Now in his eighth year in the league, Smith has the experience and poise to get the job done.

For his dependability, Smith ranks No. 11 in Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com’s backup quarterback rankings heading into the 2020 season.

“Geno played well in his last extended stretch of starts,” Rosenthal writes. “The problem is that they took place in 2014, before The Punch. Still just 29, Smith has since backed up Philip Rivers and Russell Wilson, making the Divisional Round the last two years.

“How many quarterbacks can say that?”

The Seahawks are clearly confident in Smith as well, having re-signed him to the roster in May.
