Seahawks player of the game: Defensive back Ugo Amadi

The Seattle Seahawks fell to 1-1 in the preseason on Sunday, dropping a tight battle to the Minnesota Vikings by a score of 25-19.

There were a lot of good and a lot of not-so-good performances from the Seahawks, but do-it-all defensive back Ugo Amadi gets the nod for player of the game for having his full-range of skills on display.

Amadi’s statline doesn’t initially jump out. He had two combined tackles on defense and one solo tackle on the special teams. No pass breakups, no tackles for loss, interceptions, etc.

However, Amadi’s special teams tackle was perhaps the most impressive play of the game. He blew past two blockers on punt coverage and perfectly timed his hit of returner Olabisi Johnson, taking him down as soon as he touched the football for no gain.

Amadi figures to be a big-time contributor on the special teams, and plays like that will only help him cement that role early in the preseason.

As if that wasn’t enough, Amadi also handled punt return duties for the Seahawks. Amadi returned two punts, one which went for two yards and another that went for 17 on a nice scamper up the right sideline.

Amadi was a solid punt returner while at the University of Oregon, and he is competing alongside David Moore to handle that role for the Seahawks this year.

Amadi was drafted for his versatility and big playmaking ability, and all of that and more was on display against the Vikings – making him the pick for player of the game.
