Seahawks place No. 12 in Touchdown Wire’s pre-Week 1 power rankings

The Seahawks have almost universally ranked somewhere between No. 16 and No. 12 in the NFL this offseason. The trend continues, now just a few days removed from the team’s Week 1 matchup with the Rams.

In a new batch of power rankings from Jarrett Bailey at Touchdown Wire, the Seahawks once again came in at No. 12 in the league. Here’s what Bailey had to say about Seattle.

“The Seahawks could very well win the NFC West this season. Their roster is full of talent at every position, and they don’t have uncertainties over their quarterback like another team we haven’t mentioned yet in their division. Adding Jaxon Smith-Njigba to put in the slot while Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf eat on the perimeter really takes this offense to another level. The same can be said about the addition of Devon Witherspoon in the secondary. The Seahawks will be very fun this season, and are a dark horse team to make it to the NFC Championship Game.”

This all sounds good on paper when everybody is 0-0 and anything is possible. However, all the hype about the throwback jerseys and the surging young roster can be derailed pretty quick if the Seahawks haven’t radically improved their run defense compared to last season, when it cost them several close games. Expect Sean McVay to test that – especially if Cooper Kupp is ruled out – as it looks he will be.
