Seahawks pick up UW linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven in 5th round of draft

The Seattle Seahawks selected University of Washington linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven with pick No. 142 in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft. He is Seattle’s eighth selection so far after starting the week with a league-low, four total picks.

Burr-Kirven marks Seattle’s first selection from UW this year, and is only the second Husky drafted by Seattle since 2002 – joining tight end Will Dissly who was selected by the Seahawks in 2018.

He is also the second linebacker Seattle has added to the roster this draft, a curious development considering the Seahawks have more depth at that position than any other.

However, Burr-Kirven projects as an instant impact player on the special teams and has the motor and instincts coach Pete Carroll and company absolutely love on the defensive side of the ball.

Seattle has now selected eight players in the 2019 NFL draft and still has two picks remaining:

Round 6, Pick No. 204 overall

Round 6, Pick No. 209 overall
