Paxton Lynch, C.J. Prosise potential cut candidates for Seahawks

NFL.com writer Gregg Rosenthal has named 18 veterans around the league who could be on the chopping block heading into training camp and two Seattle Seahawks – quarterback Paxton Lynch and running back C.J. Prosise – were among those featured.

Neither Lynch or Prosise were listed on our 53-man roster projection that came out shortly after minicamp ended. Unless they perform very well during training camp, it seems likely that the Seahawks will go into the 2019 season without either of them.

Lynch is competing with Geno Smith to back up Russell Wilson next season. Smith has more NFL experience and is a better fit schematically than Lynch, giving him a fairly significant advantage at the time. Unless Lynch really outplays him, Smith will be the backup this year.

Prosise has only played in 16 games since the Seahawks made him a third-round draft pick back in 2016. While he has the talent to be a premier third-down back in the NFL, his lack of health may officially put an end to his time in the Emerald City. Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny, Travis Homer and J.D. McKissic are all ahead of him on the depth chart, with Bo Scarbrough making a push for a spot as well.

All told, Lynch and Prosise are very likely going to be looking for other jobs in early September when roster cuts occur.
