Seahawks opposing QB profile: Buccaneers Jameis Winston

The Seattle Seahawks return to CenturyLink Field in Week 9 to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers led by their hot and cold quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Winston, a former Heisman winner, has not exactly panned out the way the Buccaneers had hoped when they selected him No. 1 overall in the 2015 NFL draft.

Winston was expected to be the long-sought-after franchise quarterback for the Bucs. Despite plenty of controversies in college, Tampa Bay still made him the top pick in the draft. In many ways, his roller-coaster career at Florida State, marked by incredible highs like winning a National Championship, and astonishing lows like shoplifting, became fairly predictive of his NFL career.

When Winston is able to put it all together, he is a fairly decent passer. In his first two years in the league, Winston threw for over 4,000 yards. Unfortunately, he has never been able to remain consistent.

When it comes to Winston, turnovers are his fatal flaw. Since entering the NFL in 2015, Winston has led the league with an astonishing 94 total turnovers. His 70 interceptions in this span also lead the league. The kicker? Winston has managed to do this in only 63 total games.

Despite the addition of renowned quarterback guru Bruce Arians as head coach, Winston’s struggles with ball security have continued well into this year. Through eight weeks, he has 12 interceptions and 8 fumbles, with 10 total turnovers coming in the last two weeks alone.

It can be a coin flip when it comes to which Winston teams will face. The Seahawks had better hope the turnover-prone version shows up, otherwise, Winston has more than enough arm talent to find his talented receivers and torch the Seattle secondary.
