Seahawks release strong safety Kam Chancellor

Strong safety Kam Chancellor, who has not played since the middle of the 2017 NFL season after suffering a neck injury, was officially released by the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.

Chancellor’s release officially closes the door on the Legion of Boom era, which included two Super Bowl appearances and one of the most dominant victories in the game’s history, a 43-8 demolition of the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

However, with Richard Sherman’s release last offseason and Earl Thomas’ departure to the Ravens via free agency this year, Chancellor was the last remaining member of the original Legion of Boom on Seattle’s roster.

Even though he did not play at all last season, Chancellor remained on the roster; he had guarantees in his contract that would have cost Seattle heavily against the salary cap had they released him earlier.

Chancellor has remained actively involved with the team, showing up on the sideline at games last season and making appearances at training camp.

He has been involved with other endeavors as well, including debuting the Chancellor Collection, a new shoe line in partnership with Marc Nolan shoes.

He also announced last month that his wife, Tiffany, is pregnant with their first child.

Chancellor’s release will clear a roster spot, which is necessary after the Seahawks agreed to terms with four veteran free agents this week.

Seattle still has some work to do to find which 90 players they want to take into training camp this summer before trimming the roster to 53 in September.
