Seahawks not worried about reputation of moving back in draft

It’s no secret Seattle is a team who likes to move back in the NFL draft. In fact, the Seahawks have traded their first-round pick for a player or for multiple later-round selections every year since quarterback Russell Wilson was drafted.

And with only four picks to play with this week, 2019 should be no different.

But is finding a trade partner harder now that other clubs understand the Seahawks intentions? General manager John Schneider was asked just that during his pre-draft press conference on Monday. As it turns out, it could actually make things easier.

“No, I think people recognize that we’re obviously open to moving back,” Schneider explained. “This year is unique for us having four picks. Rookie free agency is going to be huge for us, you know, because you can, it’s not, it’s not like you just pick up the phone and people are like, ‘Hey, what’s-okay? Yeah. You know, we’ll come up.'”

The Seahawks are without a second, sixth and seventh-round selection this year due to previous trades and were not awarded any compensatory picks this season. Trading back is an obvious way to recoup the missing picks and Seattle likely already has a solid game plan in place.

“It’s a process that starts, you know, several selections ahead of where you’re currently sitting,” Schneider continued. “But our guys do a great job of calling everybody and trying to get scenarios all set up and where can we go? They’re trying to figure out where we can go and move back to.

“So, I think the fact that we have done it a lot kind of invites people a little bit.”
