Seahawks not going to ‘over-expect’ from new players entering season

The Seahawks added a couple of new faces to the roster on Saturday, trading for defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and cornerback Parry Nickerson. Both have just under a week to prepare for the start of Seattle’s regular season.

Coach Pete Carroll was asked Wednesday whether or not the two players would be ready to go Week 1 at CenturyLink Field.

“It depends a little bit on the position,” Carroll said of the task of prepping the new additions quickly. “It certainly depends on the development of the guy and whether he’s ready or not. We’re not going to over-expect here as we have in the past.”

But with the release of the unofficial depth chart on Tuesday, Clowney was listed as a starter for Sunday opposite defensive end Ezekiel Ansah, who will also be making his debut as a Seahawk this weekend.

“We’re hoping to make progress through the game and then get to game two and continue to make progress as we go,” Carroll continued. “I don’t think we are anywhere near where we will be with those guys. So we’ll just take off and see what happens and adjust as we go and learn them as they learn us and hopefully make really good decisions along the way.”

The Seahawks and Bengals are set to kick off Sunday at 1:05 p.m. PT on CBS.
