Seahawks need Ziggy Ansah to come alive soon

So far, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Ziggy Ansah’s career in the Emerald City has not gone according to plan.

After missing the first two weeks of the season, not to mention all of the preseason and training camp, Ansah has recorded five combined tackles, two quarterback hits and one sack in his first two games.

He was active against Arizona, but did very little against the Rams – finishing with one combined tackle and committing a costly roughing the passer penalty.

However, despite the slow start, coach Pete Carroll doesn’t seem concerned.

“Ziggy [Ansah] is one of those guys who just plays so hard, stuff is going to happen for him,” Carroll commented on Friday. “I think the pass rush is going to come alive here in the next few weeks, I’m really excited about that. It’s the first time I really could see enough and feel like we’ve seen these guys out there enough to make some evaluations to make the kind of tweaks and stuff so we can help them out.”

These comments echo what Carroll said last week about the pass rush, which he believes is going to peak in a few weeks after the staff and players get more familiar with each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

Clowney has more than proven his worth in the last few games, recording his first career interception returned for a touchdown against the Cardinals and wreaking havoc against Jared Goff and the Rams on Thursday night.

Additionally, returners Quinton Jefferson, Branden Jackson and Rasheem Green have all been pleasant surprises.

If Ansah can start to produce like he’s capable of, coupled with the upcoming return of defensive tackle Jarran Reed, this Seahawks pass rush unit could be among the best in the league in the second half of the 2019 season.
