Seahawks mum on Frank Clark trade rumors but ‘listening to everybody’

The Seattle Seahawks are busy gearing up for the NFL draft, but that didn’t stop the media from asking about the latest on the Frank Clark situation during coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider’s press conference Monday afternoon.

Rumors have been flying over the last few days, suggesting the Seahawks are deep in trade talks regarding potential deals to move the defensive end for more draft picks this year.

Monday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Seattle had three suitors interested in Clark – the Chiefs, Colts and Jets. By the afternoon, a new story had leaked, indicating the Seahawks had asked for the Jets’ first-round pick – third overall – in exchange for the 25-year-old pass rusher.

Schneider wasn’t willing to share any specifics on the topic.

“Like I said the other night, you know, this is the trade deadline and this time of year there’s tons of speculation about a lot of players and we’re involved in a lot of deals,” Schneider explained. “We take a lot of pride in that. We wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we weren’t listening to everybody. So I get it. It’s, you know, people need to be speculating on things at this time of the year.”

But one thing we know is true, Seattle has only four selections in this year’s draft and could very well be seeking ways to acquire the missing picks via trades – whether it be with Clark or by trading down in the first down from the No. 21 overall pick.

“We just watched something this morning was like, they got everything figured out for us,” Schneider joked. So we spend a ton of time on and take a lot of pride in having relationships throughout the league and understanding what’s going on as much as we possibly can.”
