Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright: ‘Russ isn’t going anywhere’

Seattle Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year if he and the team aren’t able to come to an agreement on a new deal.

Wright joined “Good Morning Football” on Friday to discuss his own contract options but it’s what he said about teammate quarterback Russell Wilson that made headlines.

“I was kind of caught off-guard myself but looking back at it, Russ isn’t going anywhere,” Wright said. “As long as I’m in Seattle, Russ is going to be the quarterback. He means too much to us. He means way too much to this organization, he means way too much to this city.”

Wright continued his explanation.

“Usually people want to come to Seattle, not leave Seattle,” he said. “I’m sure him and the organization will get things figured out. He’s somebody that I admire and love playing with, so I expect Russ to be with the Seahawks for a very long time.”

The real question for Wright, however, is how long he will remain with the franchise.

Wright has stated that he’s not interested in a hometown discount, although he does want to stay in Seattle.

The new league year kicks off on March 17 and marks the official start of free agency.
