Seahawks LB Mychal Kendricks sentencing hearing set for Sept. 25

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks will be sentenced on a charge of insider trading on September 25, according to a report from TMZ.

That is four days before Seattle’s Week 4 contest against the Cardinals.

Kendricks plead guilty to insider trading back in September, and was signed by the Seahawks shortly thereafter. He ended up appearing in four games for the Seahawks, with an eight-game suspension and a knee injury keeping him out of the team’s other 13 games – including the playoffs.

The team re-signed Kendricks to a one-year deal this offseason, with the expectation that he would start at SAM linebacker alongside Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright.

That could still be the case, as coach Pete Carroll expects Kendricks to be available this season. The court could certainly suspend his sentence until after the season, or his court date could be delayed once again – something that has already happened twice for undisclosed reasons.

There’s also the possibility that Kendricks is unavailable for the final 12 games of the regular season, a reality that the Seahawks must prepare for.

Cody Barton, a third-round pick in 2019, has seen some time at the SAM spot in training camp and could be a candidate to start in his place.

So could Barkevious Mingo, who played a lot at the SAM spot last season but has transitioned into an edge rusher during training camp.

Shaquem Griffin is an option there as well, although Barton and Mingo are likely still ahead of him on the depth chart.
