Seahawks key offensive players stand out in scrimmage game

The Seahawks held a mock game at Pop Keeney Stadium on Saturday to get a better understanding of their roster’s capabilities and there were a number of things that stood out during the exhibition match.

The quarterbacks were solid for the most part. Russell Wilson was his usual efficient self, posting two touchdown drives of 65 and 50 yards, respectively. Backup Geno Smith completed half of his passes (5 of 10) but also two touchdowns, and fellow insurance QB Paxton Lynch completed 7 of his 11 passes. The trio combined for zero interceptions in the game.

The emerging running back duo of Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny provided a force on the ground. Both backs finished with a touchdown each and had some great moments, showing their potential as an elite pair for Seattle.

Perhaps the most notable player of the game was undrafted wide receiver, Jazz Ferguson. He totaled two touchdown receptions, one of them coming off a tip by defensive back Tre Flowers and the other giving the Green team a 23-20 victory over the Blue team. He has been turning heads in training camp and could end up making the final roster if he keeps turning in performances like this, especially if he impresses in the preseason.

Of course, players like Ferguson are not expected to make the 53-man roster. He will likely need to produce in the preseason to even have a slight chance of doing so. However, Wilson’s performance shows he is not slacking off after his massive payday, and Carson and Penny’s displays reveal the potential for an even stronger running game than that of last year.
