Seahawks’ John Schneider ranked as 6th-best general manager in NFL

It’s been a good nine-year run for Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider, who watched his team win one Super Bowl and come within one play of winning another, while making the playoffs all but two seasons he has been at the helm.

And while the glory days of the Legion of Boom have officially passed, Seattle has still been successful — as evidenced by a 10-6 regular season in 2018.

Such sustained success is why NFL.com writer Gregg Rosenthal ranked Schneider as the sixth-best general manager in the NFL, the same spot as last year.

“While Schneider may never top his brilliant run of early draft picks, he and Pete Carroll deserve extra credit for keeping the Seahawks winning while transitioning away from ‘Legion of Boom’ greats,” writes Rosenthal. “They’ve done a smart job re-signing veterans at the right time, including with Russell Wilson’s recent megadeal. With that said, the last three draft classes have a long way to go.”

While it’s true that striking gold on players like Richard Sherman (fifth round) Kam Chancellor (fifth round) and Doug Baldwin (undrafted) is unlikely to happen again, Seattle has had some good fortune in the last few years as well, including Poona Ford and Michael Dickson last year, and Chris Carson the year prior.
