Seahawks inch up to No. 13 in Touchdown Wire’s Week 5 power rankings

The first quarter of the regular season is now in the rearview mirror and the Seattle Seahawks are off to a solid start at 3-1. After beating the Cardinals in Arizona on Sunday, Seattle crawled up one spot in Touchdown Wire’s latest NFL power rankings to land at No. 13 overall.

“Though running back Chris Carson drove his coaches crazy with multiple fumbles in the first three weeks of the season, Pete Carroll and his staff stuck with the power back against the Cardinals,” writes Doug Farrar. “It proved to be a wise decision, as Carson gained 104 yards on 22 carries, giving the Seahawks the ground-and-pound focus they prefer in a 27-10 win. ”

“More importantly for Seattle’s prospects through the rest of the season, a vulnerable defense looked far stronger against Arizona’s reduced passing game, and Russell Wilson navigated his way through too much pressure to complete 22 of 28 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown,” Farrar continued. “Seattle’s faceplant against the Saints last week could be even more in the rear-view if Carroll’s team is able to beat the Rams at home this Thursday.”

The Seahawks could take control over the division with a win over the Rams in prime time. Kick-off is set for 5:20 p.m. at CenturyLink Field.
