Seahawks hosted safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson on official visit

It’s visitation season, and the Seattle Seahawks are getting their eyes on as many draft prospects as possible in advance of the 2019 NFL Draft, which is set to begin on Thursday, April 25.

It was reported by Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst that the Seahawks already had a visit with Florida safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in advance of Florida’s Pro Day on Wednesday.

Gardner-Johnson is one of the top safeties on many draft boards, and he did himself a favor by crushing the position drills and the workouts at his Pro Day. Gardner-Johnson posted a 10-foot-3 in the broad jump and 37 inches in the vertical jump, as compared to his nine-foot-nine and 36 inches from the combine.

That comes with blazing 4.48 speed and a long frame, traits that have always gotten the attention of Pete Carroll.

Gardner-Johnson is versatile as well, although Seattle would probably use him as replacement for Justin Coleman in the slot, which is a spot Gardner-Johnson is expected to excel at in the NFL.

However, he also has the range to be a cover 1 free safety, Earl Thomas’ old position, and has shown an ability to blitz off the edge as well.

Gardner-Johnson is the kind of versatile defensive back that Carroll and defensive coordinator Ken Norton love to utilize in their defensive schemes.

He could be a good target for Seattle early in the second round, if they decide they want to trade their first round pick in order to acquire more picks.
