Seahawks host free agent DE Ezekiel Ansah on visit

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said they weren’t done adding pass rushers to their team.

They took the first step toward making that a reality, hosting free agent defensive end Ezekiel Ansah on a visit Monday afternoon, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Ansah is a formidable pass rusher, having accrued 48 sacks across six NFL seasons, all with the Lions. He battled injury issues last season, only playing in seven games and recording four sacks.

Still, if Seattle deems him healthy he would be a fantastic addition to a pass rush that desperately needs to replace Frank Clark after he was shipped to Kansas City just before the NFL draft.

We projected that Ansah would be on Seattle’s 53-man roster in our first depth chart prediction of the summer. He stands 6 feet 5 and 275 pounds, and is more comfortable with his hand in the ground than coming off the edge.

That makes him kind of like Seattle first-round draft pick L.J. Collier.

Carroll did say that he envisions having second-year rusher Jacob Martin come off the edge more often next season, so the presences of Collier and potentially Ansah could allow Martin to rush off the edge while they rush from the five-technique spots.

If Seattle signs Ansah, it will probably happen after next week’s compensatory pick deadline; after that, he wouldn’t count against the comp-pick total for 2020.
