Seahawks hoping for quick return from rookie receiver DK Metcalf

Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf has been on the mend from the minor knee surgery he underwent last week. Metcalf has not played since the team’s first preseason game against the Broncos.

Coach Pete Carroll is optimistic the rookie will be back sooner than later.

“DK will be moving around this week and we’ll see where he is,” Carroll said Tuesday. “We have really high hopes that he’s going to make a really fast return. We just need to see how it goes, one day at a time. He did some more stuff today. All through this week, he’ll be working and to get him ready next week to see how far he can take it.

“We don’t know at this time, but we are very optimistic about a really quick return.”

Metcalf, one of the Seahawks second-round selections, has been smack in the middle of the wide receiver competition this summer. Although likely to make the 53-man roster regardless of his injury, the missed time also equals lost reps for the rookie, who has only logged one reception for eight yards this preseason.
