Seahawks have a process to get ready for Thursday night games

The Seattle Seahawks will face their toughest opponent of the season on Thursday night when they take on the Los Angeles Rams at CenturyLink Field.

The Seahawks not only have to prepare for Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley and the rest of the 3-1 Rams team, but they also have to do it on a very short week thanks to the Thursday night schedule.

Fortunately, the Seahawks under coach Pete Carroll have developed a routine that he feels helps maximize the team’s ability to recover from the previous game, while still preparing for their upcoming opponent.

“We definitely have a routine,” Carroll commented on Monday. “And a real clear process to go through to help players be ready and to recover from the Sunday game and to get ready to play football. I don’t know how other teams do it, but I know the way we’ve developed it and we feel real confident and we’ve had success. I think there’s real specific stuff that you gotta do to get it done.”

The Seahawks are hosting a small walk-through on Monday, a day they usually take off after a game. They’ll practice on Tuesday (also normally an off-day) before doing another walk-through type practice on Wednesday.

Carroll explained that the practices they have on short weeks are different than normal practices, but didn’t want to go into too much detail on their plan this week.

“On this day we’re still in recovery mode,” Carroll continued. “You have to try and maximize recovery and get your guys ready to go. I don’t think I need to share all the stuff that we do, so I’m not gonna, but we do look after them and you can’t practice much. You can’t practice in the same fashion as you normally do because it’s the day before the game before you know it. But it’s really important to look after the recovery aspect of this.”

The Seahawks will look to break their losing streak against the division rival Rams and move to 4-1 on the season on Thursday.

Kickoff is slated for 5:20 p.m. PT.
