Seahawks had meeting with Florida EDGE Jonathan Greenard

The Seattle Seahawks held a handful of formal meetings with potential draftees at the 2020 NFL combine, a list that included Florida edge defender Jonathan Greenard.

Greenard had a monster redshirt senior season at Florida as a grad transfer, recording 15.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks despite playing with a heavily bandaged wrist for the Gators.

It’s no surprise Seattle was in on Greenard, who has drawn comparisons to Dante Fowler thanks to his explosiveness, footwork and overall strength.

On a team that finished near the bottom of the league in pass rush, and is potentially losing Jadeveon Clowney, Jarran Reed and Quinton Jefferson to free agency, adding more pass rush via the draft is a near guarantee for John Schneider, Pete Carroll and the rest of the Seahawks front office.

A likely Day 2 pick, Greenard would be an investment for the Seahawks with one of their three picks between the second and third round.

There’s still some polishing that needs to be done, and he has a checkered injury history that could be cause for concern, but for a team with a lot of need in the pass rushing game, Greenard would be a worthwhile investment.
