Seahawks guard Mike Iupati suffered sprained foot in practice

The Seattle Seahawks signed guard Mike Iupati this offseason as an unrestricted free agent to beef up the team’s offensive line.

A seasoned veteran, reunited with former line coach Mike Solari, Iupati could be just what Seattle needs this season.

“Mike Iupati is a very well-versed guard in terms of pass-rush pickups and the stunts and stuff,” coach Pete Carroll explained after practice on Tuesday. “He and Duane [Brown] have been clicking stuff off really nice and you can see that awareness.”

However, Iupati won’t be participating in this year’s mandatory minicamp due to a sprained foot he suffered during OTA’s last Thursday. Instead, rookie Phil Haynes is taking reps in Iupati’s place.

“He got his foot turned a little bit, just got a minor sprain,” Carroll said regarding Iupati’s injury. “He’ll be fine – we’re resting him – he won’t work tomorrow or the next day, but he’s OK.”

Carroll said nothing showed up Iupati’s tests, however, he is sore, and will need a couple days to recover.
