Nick Bellore gives Seahawks a versatile fullback and special teamer

The Seattle Seahawks have been quite busy this week, agreeing to terms with four veteran free agents. While defensive end Ezekiel Ansah and corner Jamar Taylor get the most attention, Seattle did net themselves an intriguing, versatile player with the addition of Nick Bellore.

Bellore is a fullback, but he spent the first eight years of his NFL career as a linebacker and core special teamer before the Lions signed him and began transitioning him to offense.

Bellore was used almost exclusively as a lead blocker while playing fullback, with only one carry in two years, which went for no gain. He did have five receptions on five targets, however, for 16 yards.

Seattle is obviously well-equipped at the linebacker position and didn’t have a fullback on the roster after electing not to re-sign Tre Madden.

As such, Bellore is expected to compete in training camp for Madden’s old job, which was primarily as a special teamer with the occasional offensive snap in Brian Schottenheimer’s offense.

Considering that Bellore is incredibly experienced as a special teamer and a lead blocker, and has shown some ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, he seems like an obvious candidate to take over that role in 2019.
