Seahawks find safety, edge rusher early in CBS latest mock draft

The 2019 NFL draft is just over a month away and teams are busy pouring over the combine results and attending pro days around the country.

With the draft order officially set after the league released the compensatory picks awarded this year, the Seahawks are set to select in the first, third, fourth and fifth rounds.

Seattle could likely trade back to acquire more draft stock, but for now, CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso took a look at who the Seahawks could potentially target with their existing picks.

In the first round, he has Seattle pulling the trigger on Virginia safety Juan Thornhill, a potential replacement for Earl Thomas, who found his mega-deal in Baltimore.

“The Seahawks need a rangy centerfielder after the departure of Earl Thomas,” Trapasso writes. “Thornhill has the most range and explosiveness of any safety in this class.”

With no pick in the second round, Trapasso next has the Seahawks acquiring an edge rusher in the third with Eastern Michigan’s Maxx Crosby.

“Crosby is a dynamic athlete, so that’s already a big check mark for him with Seahawks GM John Schneider,” Trapasso explains. “He’s a bendy, refined edge rusher.

Trapasso also has Seattle selecting Washburn cornerback Corey Ballentine in the fourth round and Ohio State offensive lineman Michael Jordan in the fifth.
