Seahawks expected to sign free agent nickelback Jamar Taylor

The Seattle Seahawks struck again, agreeing to sign veteran cornerback Jamar Taylor, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Taylor is the Seahawks’ second addition in as many days, after they reportedly agreed to terms with defensive end Ezekiel Ansah late on Wednesday evening.

Tuesday represented the deadline for free agents to count against the compensatory pick formula. Seattle clearly wanted to keep its comp picks, which is why they chose to wait until after the deadline to pursue the remaining free agents on the market.

Taylor, who visited with Seattle in early April, has played six pro seasons after the Dolphins drafted him out of Boise State in the second round in 2013. He has bounced around the league, also playing with Cleveland, Arizona and Denver, while racking up 179 solo tackles and three interceptions, all which came in 2016 with the Browns.

Taylor has experience as a nickelback, which makes him the top candidate to replace former Seahawk Justin Coleman, who signed with Detroit at the start of free agency.

Taylor will be joined in that competition by Akeem King, Kalan Reed and Jeremy Boykins. Versatile rookie Ugo Amadi, who played a lot of nickelback during rookie minicamp, could be a factor at that spot as well.
