Seahawks expect Mychal Kendricks to be on team this year

The Seattle Seahawks signed linebacker Mychal Kendricks to another one-year deal this offseason, despite the fact he could be facing significant jail time as a result of pleading guilty to insider trading last Septemeber.

“We do expect him to be on the team this year,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Tuesday.

Kendricks’ sentencing hearing has been continued out a number of times for undisclosed reasons. Carroll was hesitant to say any more on the matter.

“There’s not much that I can say that’s going to be proper at this time,” Carroll explained. “Everything’s moving along and he’s real optimistic about how things are going. But really not too much to report. I can’t tell you much more than that.”

Kendricks has been participating in the Seahawks’ practices but is currently battling an injury.

“He hurt his pec a little bit in the weight room and so he’s been sore, but if you noticed last few days he’s got his individual work and all the preliminary work and we’re just holding him back a little bit, make sure that goes away,” Carroll said.

The Seahawks wrap up minicamp Thursday afternoon before kicking off their summer break.
