Seahawks DT Jarran Reed had surgery to repair sports hernia

Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed had surgery Tuesday morning to repair a sports hernia, according to a tweet from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The surgery, which star receiver Doug Baldwin had earlier this month, is not expected to limit Reed once training camp begins, as the recovery period is roughly 4-6 weeks.

Reed is set to play out the final year of his contract in 2019, although he is expected to negotiate an extension with Seattle over the summer.

Reed will join Wagner as defensive players looking for extensions after Seattle gave $140 million dollars to Russell Wilson – which contributed to their decision to trade star edge defender Frank Clark to Kansas City.

Reed developed into a monstrous pass rusher on the defensive interior last year, recording a career-high 10.5 sacks along with 24 quarterback hits and 50 combined tackles.

He will be Seattle’s most experienced defensive lineman next season and will be an even bigger part of the defense now that Clark is gone.
