Seahawks’ DK Metcalf could be best draft pick in NFC West

The Seahawks managed to turn a league-low four selections in the 2019 NFL draft into a class of 11, netting Seattle a B+ grade from the writers at NFL.com.

The Seahawks also earned the best pick of the NFC West for snagging Ole Miss wide receiver DK Metcalf at the end of the second round at No. 64 overall.

“But here’s the good part for the ninth receiver off the board: He couldn’t have landed in a better situation,” writes NFL.com editor, Gennaro Filice.

“The Seahawks look to do two things offensively: pound the rock and take deep shots, with the threat of the latter opening up the former, and vice versa,” Filice continues. “Metcalf’s straight-line speed give him an instant role in Brian Schottenheimer’s attack: take the top off the defense and, when the situation presents itself, go get Russell Wilson’s majestic downfield heaves.”

Metcalf impressed in Seattle’s rookie minicamp last weekend, the only one of the Seahawks’ three wide receivers drafted to participate. With Gary Jennings and John Ursua sidelined with hamstring injuries, all eyes were on Metcalf, who many believed fell far in the draft to land in Seattle’s lap.

But to earn the title of best pick in the West, Metcalf will have to outshine the rest of the receiving corps, including returning veteran Tyler Lockett, fresh off his best season yet.

Metcalf will get a true test of the NFL when he comes face to face with Seattle’s defense come minicamp in June.
